Bluewater Elementary School teacher Stephanie Lafitte recently achieved a significant milestone in her career by publishing a children's book titled "My Prize Puppy." What makes this achievement even more special is that Lafitte wrote the book when she was in the fifth grade herself. Lafitte's book is a heartwarming tale of imagination and perseverance, following a character who dreams of owning a dog but cannot afford one. Instead of giving up, the character creates an imaginary dog and participates in a dog show. The story holds personal significance for Lafitte, reflecting her childhood creativity and determination.
Lafitte's journey to publication is a testament to the power of preserving childhood dreams. The book was rediscovered while she was cleaning out her family home after her father's diagnosis with Parkinson's Disease. Her father's encouragement to preserve the story, recognizing its value and charm, was a driving force. Despite her father's passing before seeing the book published, his belief in her work continued to inspire Lafitte. After deciding to pursue publication, Lafitte reached out to several publishers, ultimately securing a deal with Dorrance Publishing Company. The book, featuring illustrations of her first and second-grade students and her dog Ghost, reflects her lifelong passion for teaching and storytelling.
Through her journey from writing a childhood story to seeing it published as an adult, Lafitte embodies the importance of perseverance, creativity, and following one's dreams. "As both a teacher and an author, she continues to inspire her students and readers alike to embrace their imaginations and never give up on their aspirations," stated Superintendent Marcus Chambers.
