Parents and guardians of students at Kenwood Elementary received notification that a power pole near the school caught fire this morning. Ocean City - Wright Fire Department members, school district administrators from our Office of Safe Schools, and Florida Power and Light responded to the campus. All students and staff are safe, and the school structure did not sustain any damage.
The power pole will need to be replaced, affecting power at Kenwood. At this time, students are being released to approved individuals with proper identification on a staggered schedule. Any student who cannot be picked up early will be monitored and safe at the school until the end of the day at normal school dismissal time, and lunch will be provided. Buses will transport the remaining students at their regular times. All after-school childcare and activities are canceled, and school is expected to resume at the usual time tomorrow.
