John Carlisle at School B oard Meeting

The Okaloosa County School Board approved John Carlisle as the Athletic Director of Baker School at the July 24, 2023, School Board meeting.    

John Carlisle graduated from Woodham High School in Pensacola, Florida, in 1989. He went on to earn his associate degree from Pensacola Junior College in 1992 and both his bachelor’s degree in special education and master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of West Florida.  

Carlisle began his teaching career 26 years ago in 1998 at his alma mater, Woodham High School, where he taught Vocational Education (VE) and inclusionary courses, and coached baseball, football, and weightlifting for 7 years. In 2005, he made his way to Okaloosa County and his home for the last 18 years at Baker School. While at Baker School, he taught special education, middle grades math, Algebra 1, and Geometry and has served as the head softball coach and assistant coach in both football and girls weightlifting. Carlisle was selected by his peers as the Teacher of the Year for Baker School for the 2023-24 school year. In all, he brings 29 years of athletic coaching experience, 18 years as head coach, with him to serve as the new Athletic Director for Baker School.  

Carlisle and his wife of 29 years, Tracy, have two sons, Bobby and Taylor, along with four grandchildren, Liam (8), Latham (8), Araya (5), and Nolan (4). He is excited, appreciative, and humbled for the opportunity to continue to work with the outstanding administration, faculty, and staff and add to the athletic history, rich traditions, and excellence of Baker Athletics.
