Retirement

The Okaloosa County School District is proud to be a Florida Retirement System (FRS) employer, contributing to the FRS for all employees. As mandated by Florida statute, all employees are required to make a 3% pretax contribution, which is automatically deducted from your paycheck and deposited into your retirement account, irrespective of the plan you select.
The Florida Retirement System currently offers two retirement plan options for employees to choose from:
Pension Plan
The Pension Plan, often referred to as a defined benefit plan, guarantees a monthly pension for the rest of your life.
Tier 1 Employees (original hire date before 7/01/2011)
Your pension amount is determined by your years of service and the average of your highest five years of earnings. You are first eligible for full retirement or DROP entry upon completing 33 years of service or reaching 62 years of age.
Tier 2 Employees (original hire date after 7/1/2011)
Your pension amount is determined by your number of years of service and teh average of your highest 8 years of earnings. You are first eligible for full retirement or DROP entry when you complete 33.0 years of service or turn 65 years old.
Four years of eligible military service may be included as part of the 30 or 33 years if proper application is made to the Division of Retirement.
Division of Retirement: 850-907-5600
Investment Plan
Unlike the Pension Plan, the FRS Investment Plan is a lump sum of money that will be managed by the retiree. There is NO monthly pension with this option.
