The Okaloosa County School District is proud to recognize Pryor Middle School sixth-grader Zeyda Ramos for her outstanding achievement and remarkable academic growth this school year. Zeyda, an English Language Learner (ELL), has demonstrated exceptional academic progress. Through hard work, resilience, and a positive attitude, she overcame language barriers and developed into a confident, high-achieving student. Now fluent in English, Zeyda has flourished academically and emerged as a leader among her peers, fostering a positive, focused learning environment.
Her academic gains have been extraordinary. On the state’s PM2 assessment, Zeyda improved by 44 points, rising from a Level 1 to Level 4 and coming just 12 points short of the top level. On the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP), she grew from a 202 to 228 RIT - exceeding her projected goal by 22 points. Additionally, her Lexile range advanced to 1130 – 1280, indicating grade-level reading proficiency.
Zeyda is also nearing completion of the READ 180 program, with only a few segments remaining. The program is designed to support students needing extra academic assistance, and her progress within it reflects her dedication and persistence. “Zeyda’s story is a powerful example of what determination can achieve,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “She has shown tremendous growth in academics, confidence, and leadership. We are incredibly proud of the example she sets for other students in our district.”
Her teacher, Ms. Donna Born, added, “Zeyda’s work ethic is phenomenal. She advocates for herself, stays focused, and takes pride in how far she has come. Watching her growth has been truly inspiring.” In recognition of her commitment, Zeyda has received both the READ 180 Award and the 2026 National READ 180 Award, honoring her outstanding progress and literacy achievement. Principal Jason McClelland shared, “Zeyda’s growth has been remarkable. Through determination and hard work, she has achieved academic success and emerged as a confident leader. We are incredibly proud of the example she sets for our school community.”
