On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Florida Department of Education released this year’s results for the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) and End of Course Exams. Each year, students are required to take statewide assessments in ELA grades 3-10, Mathematics grades 3-8, Algebra, Geometry, Science grades 5 and 8, Biology, Civics, and US History. A combined analysis of all test results show Okaloosa Schools continue to rank in the top ten school districts out of 67 in the state of Florida for the 2023-24 school year. Specifically, Okaloosa ranked 10th overall, while excelling in areas such as 5th, 7th, and 8th grade Reading, as well as 7th and 8th grade Mathematics, and 8th grade Science, which all ranked in the top six in the state. Additionally, our overall middle school test results shined as some of the best in the state with our students ranking 3rd in Math, 4th in Science, and 6th in ELA.

Superintendent Marcus Chambers expressed his appreciation for the students, teachers, staff, and administrators who worked hard throughout the year. He stated, “Our students and schools have overcome obstacles, met challenges head-on, and persevered to achieve academic success and for that, I am extremely proud. Consistently ranking as one of the top school districts in the state is a source of pride for our schools and our community. With that said, there is work to be done and plans are already in place to address areas where room for improvement exists at the school and district levels.”

The results of these assessments, along with other academic indicators, are used to produce school grades, which are anticipated to be released in August. For more information on assessment results, visit https://www.fldoe.org/accountability/assessments/k-12-student-assessment/results/2024.stml.
