2023 Van Porter Artist of the Year Show

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Van Porter Artist of the Year Art show. The Van Porter show consists of eighth graders and senior high school artists. The students must submit three art pieces and write a paragraph on “What Art Means to Me.”

The Arts and Design Society hosts this art show each year. Gary Massey presented the Van Porter Awards to the students on Thursday, March 9. 2023.

This year the eighth-grade Van Porter Artist of the Year award went to Adalaide Sandwith from Liza Jackson Preparatory School. Her art teacher is Eden Preston.

The senior high Van Porter Artist of the Year award went to Karina Colon-Albino from Crestview High School. Her teacher is Lori Phillips.

The Arts and Design Society also gave awards to a specific piece of artwork. The following students received a ribbon for their piece of artwork.

Middle School Division

  • Middle School ADSO Merit Award went to Abby Sweeney from Liza Jackson Preparatory School for her charcoal drawing, Squishy Face.
  • 1st Place went to Emma Wagner from Destin Middle School for her clay sculpture, Monster at Sea.
  • 2nd Place went to Leilani Harbo from Liza Jackson Preparatory School for her painting, Lost.
  • 3rd Place went to Kymberly Calhoun from Ruckel Middle School for her digital art, Clowning Around.
  • Honorable Mention went to Elliana Krous from Destin Middle School for her clay sculptures, Lovely.

High School Division

  • Senior High ADSO Merit Award went to Delaney Cook from Niceville High for her painting, Untitled (Rhapsody).
  • 1st Place went to Sidney Moore from Niceville High for her pencil drawing, Exhaustion of Time.
  • 2nd Place went to Jazmin Guy from Niceville High for her Mixed Media, Drifting Affection.
  • 3rd Place went to Laney Holliman from Fort Walton Beach High for her clay pottery, Chester the Squirrel.
  • Honor Mention went to Jessica Andino from Crestview High for her color pencil drawing, Shattered Emotion.

The student's artwork will be displayed through March 17, 2023, at the Arts and Design Society located at 17 First Street, FWB. Their hours are Tuesday – Friday 12 pm – 4 pm and on Saturday from 1 pm – 4 pm. Closed on Sunday and Monday. Be sure to go by and check out all the beautiful artwork created by the students!
