This is the Okaloosa County School District with an important weather update. The latest update on Hurricane Francine from Okaloosa County Director of Public Safety, Patrick Maddox does not indicate any change in storm intensity for our area. Schools will be in session tomorrow, Thursday, September 12, and we are not planning any adjustments or changes to after-school activities at this time. We will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed. Thank you and have a great evening.

District officials are in continuous communication with Okaloosa County Director of Public Safety, Patrick Maddox and his team, as they track Hurricane Francine.
At this time, schools will release at their regular times today, Wednesday, September 11. After-school activities will continue as planned unless otherwise advised by the school.
Currently, there are no plans to cancel school tomorrow, Thursday, September 12. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

District officials have been in regular contact with the Okaloosa County Director of Public Safety, Patrick Maddox, tracking Tropical Storm Francine. Francine is likely to become a hurricane today. Landfall is expected Wednesday evening along the central Louisiana coast. Okaloosa is unlikely to receive sustained tropical storm force winds on the current forecast track. Winds in the 10-15MPH range with gusts to 30MPH would be possible Wednesday afternoon/evening through Thursday with 2-4” of rain and up to 6 “ of rain in some areas. The southern half of the county is expected to have a “slight” risk for severe weather and there is a tornado threat, as with many thunderstorms in our area this time of year, late Wednesday, overnight into Thursday.
Based on the information received this afternoon from Director Maddox, and keeping student safety as our priority, schools are anticipated to remain open. The School District will continue to work with the county’s emergency operations center to monitor the impact of Tropical Storm Francine. We will provide updates as needed.
