On Monday we will remember the attacks on 9/11/2001. Leadership will hold a short remembrance ceremony at 8:30 am in the courtyard. Signs commemorating 9/11 and Operation Iraqi Freedom will be lined along Main street for you to view. Let's show our patriotism and love of freedom with 8th graders wearing red clothing to show hardness and valor, 7th graders wearing blue clothing to represent perseverance and justice, and 6th graders wearing white to signify purity and innocence, and 5th graders wearing gold or yellow to symbolize excellence and achievement. Remember clothing must follow school dress code. No face or body paint.

Fifth-grade parents, please join the fifth-grade teachers in the Media Center to learn about our curriculum. FOCUS Parent Portal and fifth-grade expectations. This is an opportunity to set you and your student up for success this year at DMS! Classrooms will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to discuss specific classroom procedures.

Do you want to help our DMS community show appreciation for our teachers? Want to help with student recognition? How about helping with Unity/World Kindness Week? Or helping manage our Clothing Assistance Program? Passionate about helping the school raise money for technology via our 2nd annual 5k run? If you answered YES to any of these, then the PTSA is for you. The PTSA's 1st general meeting is set for Wednesday, August 30th at 9:05 in the media center. Important Change in Football Game Time: Due to heat conditions, our game time Thursday has been pushed back and set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. against the Shoal River Mustangs. The theme? "We Run this Beach!" We will have a student section at the game for students to cheer on our team! For Thursday, students can show their spirit and dress up for school in their favorite Hawaiian shirt or tacky tourist. (Hats must be removed inside the classrooms/lunchrooms. No face or body paint at school allowed. ) Hope to see everyone at the game! #GoMarlins!

If you are new to Destin Middle, you are invited to meet in the cafeteria for informational tours tomorrow morning. See post for group times. Good day Destin Middle School Families, OCSD School Board Policy allows free distribution of surplus textbooks prior to disposal. These surplus textbooks are available to the public for free July 19 - July 21 from 8:30 - 2 pm. Stop by the front office and just ask to view surplus textbooks. Have a great weekend! Go Marlins!
