Exam
On Dec. 2nd 2023 the Crestview all girls high school drone team brought home another Overall First Place Championship win at the HSU Foundation Drone Team Challenge in Fort Walton Beach. The competition is divided into 5 different parts. ●Knowledge -a test on FAA drone rules and regulations (overall score and time taken to answer the questions). ● Flight - a remote controlled obstacle flight for time ● Autonomous - an autonomous flight where the teams program the drone to fly through obstacles without remote control landing on a target the score is the distance from the bullseye ● Mission Possible - an event where they fly the drone with only video visuals with the drone in another room and complete a mission that correlates to a real world problem that a professional might use a drone for ● Simulator - flying drone simulation Each part earns the team points but the team with the lowest points wins. Individual awards are given and the recipients this tournament were: ● Joanna Balbuena 2nd place Knowledge ● Brooklyn Price & Kiley Wise 1st place Flight ● Carli Emerzian - 3rd place Simulator ● Aubrey Hudson & Joanna Balbuena 2nd place Autonomous ● Breanna Enright & Carli Emerzian - 1st place Mission Possible A little drone team history: In 2018 the Shoal River Middle School Girls Robotics team, the Mizz Fitz, had just completed their robotics season and an opportunity to join the HSU Foundation Drone Team Challenge had just been given to us. The girls were nervous but went to their first competition having only flown their drone around the classroom a few hours. That first competition in December of 2018 was the beginning of a winning streak that is still going to this day. The Mizz Fitz took home the 1st place Overall Championship at that tournament and have won that honor at every competition they have been to since. When they left Shoal River they desired to continue as a drone team and the OG Mizz Fitz were born. Of the original members Avery Price, Bree Enright, and Aubrey Hudson (CHS students) and Carli Emerzian (Collegiate High School) are still going strong. Approximately 16 tournaments later and they are still a force to be reckoned with. This year Brooklyn Price, Joanna Balbuena, and Kiley Wise freshmen at CHS have joined the team after being the Mizz Fitz middle school team 2020 through 2023. These girls are leaving a legacy of excellence for Crestview and for young women. It has been my honor to watch them grow and succeed in all their endeavors.
