More than 60 students from across Okaloosa County gained valuable hands-on experience and real-world career insights during an engaging Career Exploration event held May 19 and 20. Students from Crestview High School and Pryor, Bruner, and Meigs Middle Schools participated in this interactive opportunity, designed to help them discover potential career pathways and build essential workforce skills.
Over the course of two days, students rotated between CareerSource Okaloosa Walton and Okaloosa Technical College, where they were immersed in a variety of learning experiences that brought career exploration to life.
At Okaloosa Technical College, students took part in dynamic, hands-on activities in Building Trades, Cosmetology, and Culinary programs. These experiences allowed students to step into real-world environments, using tools and techniques that professionals in each field rely on every day. From working with materials in building trades to exploring creative techniques in cosmetology and culinary arts, students gained meaningful exposure to industries that may shape their future career decisions.
Meanwhile, at CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, students explored local labor market trends and learned about in-demand careers in the region. They also participated in activities focused on building confidence and employability, including interview skill development and networking with local business leaders and recruiters. One of the highlights of the visit was hearing from an inspiring speaker who once stood in their shoes and has since achieved professional success—reinforcing the message that their goals are within reach.
This impactful event was made possible through the strong collaboration between the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, Okaloosa Technical College, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, and Vocational Rehabilitation. Each partner played a vital role in ensuring students had access to meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect classroom learning with real-world opportunities.
