Niceville High School (NHS) is located in a residential community in the panhandle of Florida near the Gulf of Mexico. It is home to Eglin Air Force Base as well as numerous small businesses and industries including fishing, textiles, and government-related contract work. The average income and educational level is well above the national norm.
Niceville High School is a public high school and is SACS-accredited. NHS is considered to be a top high school within the high performing Okaloosa County School District. In 1996 NHS was selected as one of 226 secondary schools (private and public) to be designated as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. NHS was also named a New American High School in 2001, one of only 13 in the nation to earn that honor. The State of Florida Department of Education rated the school an A+ in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007, 2008.

GPA / CLASS RANK:
Class rank is based on all courses and all students. GPA is based on a 4.0 scale with an extra 1.0 quality point awarded for Advanced Placement, AICE, gifted studies, dual enrollment courses, and some IT courses. Honors courses will receive a .5 extra quality point.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT, AICE AND HONORS CURRICULUM:
Twenty-three Advanced Placement and ten AICE courses are offered in the areas of English, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language, physical education and other electives totaling over 114 weighted honors, gifted and advanced-level courses throughout the curriculum. Dual enrollment courses are offered through an articulation agreement with the local college. All courses are available to any student willing to accept the challenge.
