School Cancelation Extended Due to Winter Weather
January 22, 2025 | 10:10am
Although the conditions for additional snow have passed, Okaloosa County Public Safety Director Patrick Maddox has informed us that the snow and ice are not expected to melt sufficiently in time to reduce road and travel hazards for school buses to operate on Thursday. Though temperatures are expected to warm on Thursday, freezing temperatures are expected to return Thursday evening into Friday, potentially impacting a Friday morning commute. Due to the current road conditions in Okaloosa County, travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. Therefore, OCSD schools and district offices will remain closed on Thursday, January 23rd, and Friday, January 24th. School will resume on Monday, January 27th.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this unprecedented weather. Stay warm and have a great day!
School Canceled Due to Winter Weather
January 19, 2025 | 2:00pm
As we continue to communicate with local and regional weather officials, we have high confidence that our area will experience winter weather impacting our roadways, making travel to and from school unsafe. Significant precipitation in the form of snow, sleet, and frozen rain is expected to begin around noon on Tuesday which could cause roads, bridges, and bypasses to freeze over. We will also experience freezing temperatures on Wednesday keeping accumulated precipitation on the ground. Therefore, school and extracurricular activities are canceled on Tuesday, January 21st and Wednesday, January 22nd.
We expect school to resume on Thursday, January 23rd, but will continue to monitor weather conditions to ensure it is safe. Communication about Thursday will be provided through District callout, text message, website, and social media accounts. If you have questions about specific events, please contact your school or the point of contact for that event.
Initial Winter Weather Message
Friday, January 17, 2025 | 6:00pm
We are currently working with Okaloosa County Public Safety Director, Patrick Maddox, and monitoring a storm that is predicted to produce winter weather including the possibility of ice or snow Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning. At this time there are no changes to our schedule, however we will continue to monitor and communicate with local and regional weather officials over the weekend. We will provide updates with families and staff through callouts, text messages, social media, and our website if decisions are made to adjust school start or dismissal times or to cancel school.
As a reminder, Okaloosa County Schools and District offices will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2025 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
