Military Families
Welcome to Destin Elementary School. We are committed to providing critical transitional support for military-connected students as they relocate to our school due to a parent's change in duty station. Our focus is to eliminate barriers to the academic success of military-connected students. We are here to assist and support the military family lifestyle in such areas as school transitions, frequent moves, deployment, and education inconsistencies that exist from state to state, along with many others.
Student Transition Ambassador Program
The teachers and staff at Destin Elementary School understand that it is difficult for a child to start at a new school. This can be exceptionally difficult for students of military families as they may have to move often and attend schools in different states.
The Destin Elementary School Ambassador Program has been put in place to help students with this transition. It is comprised of students chosen by teachers that display exceptional character and leadership abilities. There are students from military families represented in each grade level. These students will greet new students that move to our school. They will give them a tour of the school and answer questions the new student may have. They will be their support during lunch and activity time while the student gets comfortable and acclimated to their new school at Destin Elementary.
We hope this helps ease some of the stress and worry of moving. We are excited to welcome all new students and take special pride in our military students and families.
Professional Development
Destin Elementary School staff receive professional development concerning how to identify and respond to the needs of military students and their families.
