During the month of September, the Okaloosa County School District is excited to join the Nation in celebrating America’s Founding Fathers George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Jay, and Alexander Hamilton.
September 17th is Constitution Day, a day in which the students in Okaloosa County will observe the importance of the Constitution 236 years after the delegates of the Constitutional Convention met for the first time to sign the document. Students will learn about the Constitution and the importance of this document to our nation’s history and the freedoms we appreciate today. We will observe Constitution Day on Friday, September 15th.
During Celebrate Freedom Week, which is the last full week of classes in September (September 25-29), students will recite the Preamble of the Constitution at the beginning of each day. Teachers will integrate resources from the National Archives and Library of Congress to enhance understanding of the role of the Declaration of Independence in the founding of our nation.
